Sri Lanka defeated South Africa by three wickets in the one-off T20I in Colombo on Tuesday.
Lakshan Sandakan led an inspired spin attack (three for 19) to help skittle out South Africa for its lowest-ever T20I total of 98. Dinesh Chandimal, returning to the side, guided the team home with an unbeaten 36 (33b, 3x4, 1x6). Dananjaya de Silva contributed 31 (26b, 4x4, 2x6).
Electing to bat in the only T20 match of the tour, the visitors were bowled out in 16.4 overs — two runs less than their previous low score of 100 against Pakistan in 2013.
Sandakan returned three for 19 with his left-arm wrist spin, ably supported by fellow spinners Dhananjaya de Silva and Akila Dananjaya who took two wickets each.
Sri Lanka swept the two-Test series but the Proteas returned to clinch the ODIs 3-2.
The scores: South Africa 98 in 16.4 overs (Lakshan Sandakan three for 19, Dhananjaya de Silva two for 22, Akila Dananjaya two for 15) lost to Sri Lanka 99 for seven in 16 overs (Dinesh Chandimal 36 n.o., Dhananjaya de Silva 31), Kagiso Rabada two for 24, Tabraiz Shamsi two for 26, Junior Dala two for 22).
