There should be a change in the United National Party (UNP) leadership before the upcoming Local Government elections, a group of party seniors said today (June 19) at a media briefing at Hotel Nippon.
The long-standing UNPers including Buddhika Kurukularatne, D. Premaratne and Vincent Dias said that earlier the UNP always encouraged leadership and consultations from the grassroots level. But the situation has changed drastically now, they lamented.
During the heydays of the UNP, any decisions taken at party headquarters Sirikotha reached the villages within a matter of about five hours. That is why the party rose from village level unlike now, these members charged.
They urged the current leadership of the UNP to hold the party convention soon and reform it to face the Local Government elections to be held in the near future.
