Believes party needs a change in leadership, says Sajith
Mobitel Inner

While accepting the present leadership of the party, he believes that the United National Party (UNP) needs a change in leadership, said Hambantota Parliamentarian Sajith Premadasa.

It should be a leadership acceptable to the grassroots of the party, he added.

Asked about the proposed amendment to the constitution to create an Executive Prime Minister’s post, Sajith Premadasa said that he did not want to comment on the issue as it has been left for the party seniors to discuss. He said he did not want to jeopardize the discussions by commenting on it.

When the media asked Mr. Premadasa whether the government would fish for opposition members like earlier to obtain a two thirds majority, Sajith Premadasa said that apparently such moves were afoot but it would be better if the opposition parliamentarians did not get trapped by such moves.

Speaking during a media briefing at the Opposition Leader’s office in Colombo, Mr. Premadasa also added that the United Nations had no right to interfere in the internal affairs of a sovereign nation without the sanction of the UN Security Council. Secretary General Ban Ki Moon has no authority to do so, Mr. Premadasa said.

However, there are better ways other that staging fasts unto death to register a protest against the UN, Sajith Premadasa added.
