‘Ayyo Saami’: Windy Goonatillake’s hit song wins big at Indian awards ceremony

Sri Lankan music artist Windy Goonatillake has won big at the Edison Awards in India for her entrancing hit song ‘Ayyo Saami’.

The track, released in 2022, thus bagged the award for the ‘Sensational Song of 2023’ at the 16th annual edition of the event.

‘Ayyo Saami’, written by Pottuvil Asmin and composed by Sanuka Wickramasinghe, became an immediate smash hit soon after its release, garnering over 22 million views on YouTube and more than 1 million play counts on Spotify.

Edison Awards is an annual awards ceremony since 2009 for artists in the Tamil film industry. Named after the inventor of motion pictures Sir Thomas Alva Edison, the event recognizes the outstanding achievements in music and cinema.
