Maldivian President to visit Sri Lanka on May 3

The President of the Maldives, Mohamed Muizzu is scheduled to visit Sri Lanka on May 3 on an invitation extended by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

The Maldivian President will remain in Sri Lanka until May 5.

A number of Memoranda of Understanding are scheduled to be signed between Sri Lanka and the Maldives, during President Mohamed Muizzu’s state visit to Sri Lanka.

With a view to strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two countries across a range of sectors, the Cabinet of Ministers has approved the signing of the following Memoranda of Understanding during the said state visit:

  • Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Defence and National Service of the Republic of Maldives and the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University of Sri Lanka, on the organization of training programmes, implementation of staff exchange programmes, and the conduct of joint research.
  • Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Skills Development of the Republic of Maldives and the Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education of Sri Lanka, on cooperation in the training of teachers and school leaders, and in the field of professional development.
  • Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Health, Family and Welfare of the Republic of Maldives and the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka, on academic cooperation.
  • Memorandum of Understanding between the Republic of Maldives and the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, on cooperation in the field of tourism.
  • Memorandum of Understanding between the National Archives of Maldives and the Department of National Archives of Sri Lanka, on cooperation in the field of archives.
  • Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Fitness of the Republic of Maldives and the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports of Sri Lanka, on sports and youth development.
