Brief Garden in Beruwala has been featured in The New York Times Style Magazine’s latest feature titled “Nine Artists on the Gardens They’ll Never Forget.”
The article highlights the iconic Sri Lankan garden through the perspective of Sri Lankan fashion designer Amesh Wijesekera, founder and creative director of the fashion label Amesh.
Reflecting on the inspiration he draws from the garden, Wijesekera describes Brief Garden as a unique and evolving artistic landscape created by renowned designer Bevis Bawa, brother of celebrated Sri Lankan architect Geoffrey Bawa.
Originally a rubber plantation, the property was transformed into a lush tropical garden beginning in the 1920s, featuring dense plantings, sculptures, and art-filled interiors.
The feature appears as part of the magazine’s spring T Gardens package, which invited artists from around the world to share landscapes and gardens that have deeply inspired their creative work.
