Two persons were killed while cleaning a ditch in the Attidiya area of Dehiwala. The two victims were attempting to clean a clogged disposal ditch connected to a hotel in Dehiwala, police stated.

One of the victims had climbed down into the ditch filled with dirty water when he had lost consciousness while the second victim had fallen into the ditch while attempting to save the other cleaner.

Police suspect that a poisonous gas emitted from the ditch may have caused the two deaths.

The two victims were aged 32 and 33 and were residents of Agarapathana and Matigahatenna.
