VIDEO: President opens renovated Iranamadu airstrip

President Mahinda Rajapaksa declared open the reconstructed Iranamadu airstrip in the Kilinochchi District a short while ago, President’s Media Unit said.
The President was flown to Iranamadu in a MA-60 aircraft of the Sri Lanka Air Force Helitours and made made the first Landing, amidst of the salute by the fire vehicles of the Sri Lanka Air Force.
LTTE cadres had constructed a 600m long runway at the same site and destroyed it using bulldozers, prior to the Army retaking Iranamadu.
The reconstructed runway extends up to 1500m and a width of 25 metres. The reconstruction work was carried by the Sri Lanka Air Force.
The Commander of the Air Force Air Marshal Harsha Abeywickrema personally flew a Y 12 aircraft and had made a test landing.
