Wildlife officer killed in elephant attack

A wildlife officer attached to the Thanamalwila Wild Life Office died after being attacked by a wild elephant.
The officer was on duty and had been riding on his motorcycle when the attack took place at around 11pm last night.
He was admitted to the Hambantota Hospital with critical injuries following the incident, however died shortly after.
The deceased is said to be a 24-year-old youth from Ginthota, Galle.
Meanwhile a person was killed in a separate elephant attack in the Nayanwala area in Sigiriya last night.
Police said the man was traveling by bicycle when he was attacked by an elephant at around 7.30pm.
He had succumbed to injuries after being admitted to the Dambulla Hospital.
