Expired chocolates worth Rs 100 million seized

The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) today seized a stock of around 40,000 kilograms of expired chocolate following a raid at a warehouse in Seeduwa on the Colombo-Negombo main road.
The stock of chocolates, with an estimated value exceeding Rs 100 million, have been expired for over a year and were being repackaged with different labels to be resold in the market.
The CAA said that the chocolates have been imported from India.
Meanwhile a stock of expired bottles of flavoring, unsuitable for consumption, used for preparing fruit drinks have been seized from a supermarket located at Union Place in Colombo.
They are estimated to be worth around Rs 3 million, the CAA said, adding that legal action will be taken against the owner of the establishment.
