Thundershowers in the Uva and North- Central provinces

The Met. Dept. says that several spells of showers will occur in the Central, Sabaragamuwa, Western, Northwestern and Southern provinces. Thundershowers will develop at several places in the Uva, North- central and Eastern provinces during the afternoon or evening.

Temporary localized strong winds may occur during thundershowers. General public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize the damages caused by lightning activities.

According to the Department, showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle and at several places in the other sea areas around the island.

Winds will be South-westerly and the speed will be 20-40 kmph. The winds can strengthen up to 50kmph at times. The sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Trincomalee via Mannar and Kankesanthurai and from Hambantota to Pottuvil may be rough at times as winds can strengthen up to 50-60kmph.
