Duty Free employee caught with gold in ‘knee guard’

Three Sri Lankan males have been arrested by Customs at arrival lounge of the Katunayake International Airport this morning on information provided by the security officers of Airport and Civil Aviation Authority.
Customs spokesman Leslie Gamini said that 2 parcels containing 20 pieces of gold slabs, weighing 2 kilograms and valued at Rs 10 million, was found concealed in a knee guard of an employee of a Duty Free Shop at the airport.
A passenger and a broker were later arrested in connection with the smuggling attempt.
The gold had been handed over to the Duty Free employee by the two passengers, who had arrived from Dubai by flight EK 349 at 1.45am today (24), he said.
Investigation are being carried out by a team led by a Customs Superintendent.
