Families evacuated from landslide prone area in Bandarawela

Some seven families in Maligathenna in Bandarawela area have been evacuated from a landslide prone area, the Disaster Management Center (DMC) said.
The evacuation was done following instructions from the Landslide Research and Risk Management Division, with the prevailing bad weather condition is expected to continue with in next 48-hours, according to the DMC
The evacuated persons are currently sheltered in at a school in Bandarawela.
Further, the DMC has issued landslide warning for seven districts of Kandy, Ratnapura, Kegalle, Matale, Badulla, Nuwara-Eliya and Kalutara.
Senior Scientist at the Landslide Research and Risk Management Division, Dr. H.A.G. Jayatissa, said that the people living in these areas need to give special attention on all mountain areas, man-made cut slopes, and roads within the district.
