The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) today filed a petition at the Court of Appeal and sought an order for the arrest of one time LTTE’s arms procurement wing leader and ‘international secretariat’ Shanmugam Kumaran Tharmalingam alias Kumaran Pathmanathan (KP).

Ada Derana reporter said that the case was filed by Parliamentarian and JVP Propaganda Secretary Vijitha Herath.

The respondents for the case include the Army Commander, Inspector General of Police, and controller of the Immigration and Emigration Department.

The petitioners, in their petition alleged that Pathmanathan has not been prosecuted yet though it has elapsed over many years since his arrest in 2009.

Pathmanathan was on Interpol’s most wanted list for various charges including arms smuggling and criminal conspiracy. He is also wanted by India’s law enforcement agencies in connection with the assassination of former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in 1991 and for violation of the Terrorist Act and the Indian Explosive Act.
