Nilwala River diesel leak: Fuel station to be closed

The Central Environmental Authority (CEA) says it will order the temporary closure of the fuel station responsible for the diesel leak which had contaminated the Nilwala River.

CEA Matara District deputy director Susantha Wedage stated that the order will be handed over in writing within the day. 

He stated that all the fuel has been removed from the underground tank which had leaked and that the process of cleaning the diesel which had leaked to the Nilwala River is still ongoing. 

Meanwhile the Disaster Management Center (DMC) says that the water supply to the Matara area which had been suspended since yesterday (16) is currently being restored.
