A gazette to introduce a color chart to indicate the levels of sugar quantity on soft drink bottles will be implemented from 1 August, the Health Minister has said.

The taxes on the production of sugar will also be increased, the Health Ministry said in a statement today (26).

Further, steps will be taken to issue an order to direct the tobacco companies to print cigarette packs without entering remarks about the product as well, the statement added. The legislation which makes it compulsory to carry pictorial warnings covering 80 per cent of cigarette packs was unanimously passed in Parliament earlier.
