VAT amendment won’t benefit people - JO

The amended bill on the Value Added Tax (VAT) would not bring any benefit to people, the Joint Opposition claims.

The observation was made by MP Bandula Gunawardena while speaking at a press conference held in Colombo this afternoon (14).

“A business that exceeds a daily turnover of Rs.136,586 would also be entitled for tax under the new amendment,” Gunawardena added.

Meanwhile, former Foreign Minister G.L. Peiris while speaking at the press conference severely condemned the attack on Sri Lankan High Commissioner to Malaysia I. Ansar at the Kuala Lumpur airport.

“Under the rule of Maithri – Ranil, even the international community did not raise their concerns over this incident,” he said.

JO and MEP leader Dinesh Gunawardena alleged that progress in connection with the cases filed on the legality of the Financial Crime Investigation Division (FCID) have come to an abrupt end.
