Development (Special Provisions) draft bill defeated in NWPC

The Development (Special Provisions) draft bill has been defeated in the North Western Provincial Council with a majority of 20 votes. 

Ada Derana reporter said that 31 councillors voted against the draft bill while only 11 votes were cast in favour. 

The draft bill has also been defeated by the Uva, North Central, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Southern Provincial Councils while the Northern Provincial Council unanimously decided not to support it.  

Minister of Development Strategies and International Trade Malik Samarawickrama had previously announced that bill will be presented in Parliament in February 2017.
