Former General Secretary of the United National Party (UNP) Tissa Attanayake says that he believes that the time has come for him to make a return to active politics, bringing an end to the “transition period”.

Asked about the political party he will choose the represent, the former Health Minister said that he will restart his political movement as a member of the UNP.

Speaking to reporters about the recent removal of Wijeyadasa Rajapakse as Justice Minister, the one-time senior UNP leader said that during the past 10 years Mr Rajapakse had stood with the party leadership during the times of internal conflict and disputes.

Attanayake said that it is not fair to push them out that way, no matter who they are. From the view of the people it is visible that a political explosion is bound to happen.
