Govt circulars should not delay any public service – President

President Maithripala Sirisena stated that government circulars should not delay or hinder the activities of any public service.
Speaking at the 143rd World Post Day celebrations in Polonnaruwa earlier today (9), President Sirisena stated that any circular that has blocked the efficiency and formality of a professional service should be solved through discussions.
The President addressed all the Postal service workers stating that resolutions will be provided following discussions.
According to the United Nations, World Post Day is celebrated each year on 9 October, the anniversary of the establishment of the Universal Postal Union in 1874 in the Swiss Capital, Bern. It was declared World Post Day by the UPU Congress held in Tokyo, Japan in 1969. Since then, countries across the world participate annually in the celebrations. The Postal services in many countries use the event to introduce or promote new postal products and services.
The new stamp, souvenir and the first day cover, issued to mark the 143rd celebration of the World Post Day were presented to the President.
The President also launched the E-commerce website at this occasion.
