UPFA Parliamentarian Mahindananda Aluthgamage claims that there is no agreement to reconvene Parliament ton November 07, as claimed by the Speaker this morning.
Speaking at a press conference in Colombo today (2), the MP said that the Parliament will definitely reconvene on November and that the President has made no changes with regard to this.
President Maithripala Sirisena last week prorogued Parliament until Nov. 16, but Speaker Karu Jayasuriya says that the President informed him that it will reconvene on Nov. 7.
The Speaker revealed this while addressing a meeting held with representatives of several political parties at the parliamentary complex today.
The Speaker met with the party representatives to express his stance on the request made by the United National Party (UNP), Illankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi (ITAK), Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) and Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) to convene the parliament immediately.
However, Aluthgamage alleged that not all UNP MPs had been present for this meeting and that 6 parliamentarians were absent.
He also claimed that a certain Member of Parliament will be sworn in as a minister this evening and that it will shock the UNP. He alleged that today’s meeting was an attempt to sway that MP.
