The government has announced that measures will be taken to provide relief to the low-income people in the Western Province where the quarantine curfew is in effect to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

Accordingly, an allowance of Rs 5,000 will be provided again to families that have lost livelihood in the Colombo, Gampaha and Kalutara districts, the Department of Government Information said.

Meanwhile, arrangements have been made to provide a relief package worth Rs 10,000 for all families under quarantine.

District Secretaries, Divisional Secretaries, Grama Niladhari, rural committees and the security forces will be coordinating the relief programmes.

Measures have also been taken to implement a door-to-door marketing system for essential food items in order to meet the needs of people in the Western Province during this period.

In addition, the government has announced that people engaged in the field of agriculture in the curfew-imposed districts will be allowed to carry out their activities without restrictions from the curfew, the Government Information Department said further.
