Sri Lanka Railways announced that train services from Western Province to other areas will be suspended from tonight until midnight on Sunday (Nov. 15).

Meanwhile only tomorrow’s morning trains will be allowed to enter Colombo.

Issuing a notice, the Department of Railways said that as per the decision taken by health authorities, from 10.00 p.m. today (11) to Sunday (15) trains will be permitted to enter Western Province while they are not permitted to leave the limits of the Western Province.

Therefore, train services are to be operated as following:

Trains departing from Beliatta, Kandy, Mahawa, Puttalam and Avissawella train stations as well as other trains travelling on those routes will be allowed to reach the Colombo Fort railway station tomorrow (12) morning.

Passengers travelling on the evening trains from Colombo will be allowed to travel up to stations located within the Western Province limits such as Aluthgama, Ambepussa, Kochchikade and Avissawella.

Due to health reasons, passengers within the Western Province will not be taken any further from stations while passengers from the next stations will be permitted to board these operating trains and travel until end destinations.

All trains operating regionally will operate according to the train schedule, it further said.
