SL Bird Wing becomes the National Butterfly

Sri Lanka Bird Wing is the country’s national butterfly. It is one of the largest and most attractive of its kind. An endemic species, Sri Lanka Bird Wing or “Troides darsius” frequents all parts of the island.

 

 

The Ministry of Environment announced that this particular species has been declared as the National Butterfly of the country. Sri Lanka Bird Wing is adorned with bright golden-yellow markings on the hind wings and has velvety black fore wings and interjecting black veins.  - (Govt. Information Dept.)
