September 27, 2023   08:58 am

Train services on the Coastal Line have been delayed due to a derailment at Kollupitiya this morning (27), the Railway Department announced.

Accordingly, it said that a train bound for Moratuwa from Mahawa had derailed near the Kollupitiya railway station disrupting services on the coastal line.

Steps are being taken to rectify the situation as soon as possible, the department further said.

UPDATE:

Train operations on the coastal line have been limited to a single track, owing to the derailment of a train between Kollupitiya and Colombo Fort railway stations, Sri Lanka Railways said.

The Additional General Manager (Operations) of Sri Lanka Railways, V. Polwattage stated that therefore, priority has been given to Colombo-bound trains and as a result the commuters leaving Colombo may face delays.

Hence, he urged the public to use alternate means of transport until the situation is rectified.
