Early landslide warnings issued for eight districts including Colombo

Early landslide warnings have been issued by the National Building and Research Organisation (NBRO) for multiple areas in eight districts including Colombo, as heavy rainfall continues across parts of the island.

Accordingly, a Level 2 (Amber) warning was issued for several areas in the Galle, Kalutara, Kandy, Kegalle, Matara and Ratnapura districts as follows:

Galle – Neluwa Divisional Secretariat Division (DSD) and surrounding areas
Kalutara – Ingirya DSD and surrounding areas
Kandy – Pasbage Korale DSD and surrounding areas
Kegalle – Ruwanwella and Deraniyagala DSDs and surrounding areas
Matara – Kotapola and Pitabeddara DSDs and surrounding areas
Ratnapura- Ayagama, Kuruwita, Pelmadulla, Nivithigala, Kiriella, Ratnapura, Elapatha, Eheliyagoda and Kalawana DSDs and surrounding areas

Meanwhile, a Level 1 (Yellow) warning was issued for the following areas:

Colombo – Seethawaka Divisional Secretariat Division (DSD) and surrounding areas
Galle – Elpitiya DSD and surrounding areas
Hambantota – Walasmulla DSD and surrounding areas
Kalutara – Mathugama, Bulathsinhala, Agalawatta and Walallawita DSD and surrounding areas
Kegalle – Yatiyanthota, Kegalle and Dehiowita DSDs and surrounding areas
Matara – Athuraliya and Mulatiyana DSDs and surrounding areas
Ratnapura- Imbulpe and Kolonna DSDs and surrounding areas
