‘Red’ landslide warnings issued for 4 districts

As downpours continue to batter southwestern areas in the country due to the active monsoon conditions, the National Building Research Organization (NBRO) has issued a ‘Red’ (Level 3) landslide alert for several areas in four districts – Galle, Matara, Kalutara and Ratnapura.

Accordingly, a ‘Red’ warning is in place for the following areas until 8:30 p.m. today (Oct. 07):

• Galle District: Elpitiya and Nagoda Divisional Secretariat Divisions (DSDs) and surrounding areas
• Kalutara District: Ingiriya, Walallawita and Mathugama DSDs and surrounding areas
• Matara District: Pitabeddara DSD and surrounding areas
• Ratnapura District: Kuruwita DSD and surrounding areas

Meanwhile, a Level 2 (Amber) put in place for several areas in the Galle, Matara and Ratnapura districts is as follows:

• Galle District: Neluwa DSD and surrounding areas
• Matara District: Akuressa DSD and surrounding areas
• Ratnapura District: Ratnapura, Elapatha, Eheliyagoda and Kalawana DSDs and surrounding areas

Meanwhile, a Level 1 (Yellow) warning was issued for the following areas:

• Colombo District: Seethawaka and Padukka DSDs and surrounding areas
• Galle District: Galle Four Gravets, Thawalama, Ambalangoda, Niyagama, Akmeemana, Imaduwa, Bope Poddala, Yakkalamulla and Baddegama DSDs and surrounding areas
• Gampaha District: Mirigama DSD and surrounding areas
• Hambantota District: Walasmulla DSD and surrounding areas
• Kalutara District: Bulathsinhala, Agalawatta, Palindanuwara and Dogangoda DSDs and surrounding areas
• Kandy District: Pasbage DSD and surrounding areas
• Kegalle District: Kegalle, Dehiowita, Bulathkohupitiya, Deraniyagama, Ruwanwella and Yatiyanthota DSDs and surrounding areas
• Matara District: Thihagoda, Matara, Kirinda, Puhulwella, Malimbada, Kamburupitiya, Athurugiriya, Mulatiyana, Pasgoda, Kotapola, Hakmana and Welipitiya DSDs and surrounding areas
• Ratnapura District: Kiriella, Godakawela, Kahawatta, Ayagama, Imbulpe, Openayake, Kolonna, Weligepola, Pelmadulla and Nivithigala DSDs and surrounding areas
