Navy seizes 1,955kg of smuggled Tendu leaves in Norochcholai

Sri Lanka Navy has seized a lorry loaded with approximately 1,955kg of smuggled Tendu leaves during a search operation conducted in Norochcholai area on Saturday (23).

During the operation which was carried out by SLNS Thambapanni in the Northwestern Naval Command in Norochcholai area, the naval personnel inspected a suspicious lorry parked at the Norochcholai Economic Centre and found 63 packages of smuggled Tendu leaves weighing around 1955kg in the vehicle, the navy said.

Thus, the stock of Tendu leaves and the lorry were taken into the naval custody.

Meanwhile, the consignment of Tendu leaves and the lorry have been handed over to the Customs Preventive Office in Katunayake for onward legal action.
