Policeman killed, another injured in shooting incident at Weligama

A police officer was killed while another officer was injured during a shooting incident near a hotel in Weligama while police were conducting a raid.
The deceased has been identified as a Police Sergeant attached to the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD).
The shooting had occurred near a hotel at Palana in Weligama this morning (31) while Weligama Police had chased after the van used to carry out the shooting and returned fire.
The Police Sergeant was killed during this exchange of fire while another officer was left wounded.
