Another inmate at Matara Prison dies from meningitis

An inmate of the Matara Prison has reportedly died after being hospitalized with symptoms of meningitis. 

The 53-year-old resident of Walasmulla had died while being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), according to the Prisons Spokesman. 

This is the second death due to meningitis at the Matara Prison.

The officials of the prison department had taken steps to implement strict health measures at Matara Prison recently, following 17 inmates falling ill, while one of them was reported dead due to suspected meningitis.
