Three arrested activists including Lahiru, Duminda granted bail

Three activists, who had been arrested during a recent protest march organized by the ‘Jana Aragala Vyaparaya’ (People’s Struggle Movement) were granted bail on the orders of Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday (03).

Accordingly, Frontline Socialist Party (FSP) activist Duminda Nagamuwa, youth activist Lahiru Weerasekara, and Ven. Rathkarawwe Jinarathana Thero have been released on bail conditions.

The trio was taken into custody during a demonstration held on 20 March during which at least 05 police officers were injured during the clashes with protesters. It had been organized by the People’s Struggle Movement based on several issues including the soaring cost of living and certain foreign agreements the government intends to sign. 

Police had resorted to using tear gas and water cannons to disperse the protesters in Pettah, Colombo.
