Colombo consumer price inflation drops to 0.9% in May

The overall rate of inflation as measured by the Colombo Consumer Price Index (CCPI) on year-on-year (y-o-y) basis decreased to 0.9% in May 2024, the Department of Census & Statistics (DCS) says.

Last month, the CCPI-based inflation was calculated at 1.5%, according to the latest figures published by the DCS.

On a year-on-year basis, the inflation of food group dropped to 0.0% in May 2024 from 2.9% in April 2024 while the inflation of the non-food group climbed to 1.3% in May from 0.9% in April 2024.

The contributions to the inflation rate of May 2024 from the food group and non-food group were   -0.37% and -0.20%, respectively.

Meanwhile, CCPI Core in May 2024 has decreased to 177.0 from 177.3 in April 2024, while the general price level has increased by 94.1% compared to the index reference (2021).
