Education Secretary requests security for all schools, staff and students

The Education Ministry Secretary has requested the Defence Secretary to ensure the security of all schools, National Colleges of Education island-wide, their staff and students while the non-academic staff engage in their ‘sick leave’ campaign today and tomorrow.

 

The non-academic staff of government schools have launched a trade union action by reporting sick today (24) and tomorrow (25).

 

Accordingly, the Ministry of Education has issued a notice to the school principals on the functioning of schools on these days.

 

It is instructed to initiate a proper plan to effectively coordinate academic activities in collaboration with the school community to ensure continuous education without any interruptions.

 

The notice has been issued to all the Provincial Educational Secretaries and the Provincial Educational Directors.

 

Meanwhile, a request has been made to the Ministry of Defence to ensure the security of all schools, National Colleges of Education, educational staff, school students and physical resources of the schools island-wide as a precaution in the wake of this trade union action.

 

The request has been made by the Education Ministry’s Secretary J.M. Thilaka Jayasundara to the Defence Secretary Kamal Gunaratne. 

 

Meanwhile, a similar request has been made from the Ministry of Public Security to ensure the security at state universities.
