Increase in HIV/AIDS cases among youth in Sri Lanka

The National STD/AIDS Control Programme (NSACP) has reported that 40 children were diagnosed with HIV/AIDS within last year. 

STD specialist Dr. Vino Dharmakulasinghe, has stated that the number of adults reported to have contracted HIV/AIDS is 3,169.

The number of people living with HIV increased from 607 in 2022 to 694 in 2023, marking a 14 percent rise. Of these 694 patients, 613 are males.

Dr. Dharmakulasinghe also highlighted an increase in the spread of AIDS among the age group of 15 to 24.
