Six candidates place deposits for 2024 Presidential Election so far

The Election Commission of Sri Lanka says that so far deposits have been placed for six candidates to contest the 2024 Presidential Election. 

This includes two independent candidates and four other candidates from recognized political parties.

The independent candidates are President Ranil Wickremesinghe and former MP Sarath Keerthirathne while the other four candidates are Oshala Herath from ‘Abhinawa Niwahal Peramuna’, ASP Liyanage of the Sri Lanka Labour Party, Sajith Premadasa of the ‘Samagi Jana Balawegaya’ and P W S K Bandaranayake from ‘Jathika Sanwardhana Peramuna’.

Furthermore, the Election Commission of Sri Lanka had issued a Gazette on July 26 stating that 21st September 2024, as the date for holding the poll for the presidential election.
