Two-year-old killed in crash on Southern Expressway

A two-year-old girl has died in an accident that occurred on the Southern Expressway this morning (14) in the Elpitiya Police Division.

The accident had occurred when a van travelling from Mattala towards Kottawa collided with the safety guardrail in the middle of the expressway due to a tyre puncture and toppling on the road.

Three children who were travelling in the van have sustained injuries and one of them, a two-year-old girl, succumbed to injuries after being admitted to the Elpitiya Base Hospital.

The deceased is a 02-year-old resident of the Wedihiti Kanda area in Kataragama.

Police stated that twelve passengers including children and adults were travelling in the van at the time of the incident.

Elpitiya Police is conducting further investigations into the incident.
