One person injured as police fire at lorry in Panadura

A person has been injured and admitted to hospital after he was wounded in a shooting carried out by police in the Pallimulla area in Panadura.

Panadura North Police had ordered a lorry to stop at a police checkpoint for a search operation.

However, police had opened fire at the lorry as it had disregarded instructions to stop and had continued to move forward in a suspicious manner. 

One person traveling in the lorry was injured and he is currently receiving treatment in the hospital, police said.

Police also stated that the lorry was illegally transporting cattle at the time.
