Acting Controller General of Immigration and Emigration appointed

The Additional Secretary of Public Security Ministry, B.M.D. Nilusha Balasuriya, has been appointed as the Acting Controller General of Immigration and Emigration, said the Cabinet Spokesman, Minister Vijitha Herath.

This decision follows the recent remand of the former Controller General of Immigration and Emigration I.S.H.J. Illukpitiya, who has been ordered remanded from September 25 by the Supreme Court over contempt charges.

Since Mr. I.S.H.J. Illukpitiya, who served as a Controller General of Immigration and Emigration, has been remanded from 25-09-2024 on Supreme Court Order, a suitable officer should be appointed to perform the duties in the said post, the cabinet spokesman said.

Accordingly, the Cabinet of Ministers has approved the proposal presented by the Minister of Public Security to appoint Mrs. B.M.D. Nilusha Balasooriya, a Special Grade Officer of the Sri Lanka Administrative Service, who is serving as an additional secretary of the Ministry of Public Security at present, has been appointed to the post of Controller General of Immigration and Emigration with immediate effect on acting basis, he said.
