Suspect held with 600,000 capsules of prescription drugs in Borella

A search operation conducted by the Navy and Police Special Task Force (STF) has led to the arrest of a suspect with around 600,000 capsules of a prescription drug, commonly abused for intoxication, which were being transferred to sell.

The coordinated operation, which also resulted in the seizure of a lorry used to peddle the drugs, was mounted in the Borella area on Wednesday (09), the navy said.

Based on information received by naval intelligence, the search operation was mounted by Sri Lanka Navy in coordination with the Police STF. 

After having searched a suspicious lorry in the Borella area, these stock of prescription drugs were recovered from the possession of the suspect in the vehicles. Accordingly, the suspect together with drugs and the lorry were taken into custody, the navy said.

The suspect held in this operation was identified as a resident of Mannar, aged 44. 

The suspect, along with capsules of prescription drugs and the lorry, was handed over to the Police Narcotic Bureau (PNB), Colombo for onward legal action, it said.
