October 15, 2024   08:37 am

The Chairman and the members of the University Grants Commission (UGC) have resigned from their respective positions in the commission.

It is reported that they have tendered their letters of resignation to the President on Monday (14).

The resignations reportedly came after a notification made by the Presidential Secretariat asking the UGC members to resign from their positions.

Accordingly, the Chairman of the UGC, Senior Prof. Sampath Amaratunga, its Vice Chairman Senior Prof. Chandana P. Udawatte and the commissioners have informed President Anura Kumara Dissanayake in writing that they will resign from their respective positions.

The official term of the members of the UGC, who were appointed to the positions in the year 2020, was set to end in March 2025.
