Sri Lanka’s new Cabinet to be sworn in today

The Cabinet Ministers of the new government are scheduled to be sworn in before President Anura Kumara Dissanayake at 10.00 a.m. today (Nov. 18) at the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo.

It has been reported that both Cabinet Ministers and Deputy Ministers will be sworn in during the ceremony.  

The senior spokesman of the National People’s Power (NPP) Tilvin Silva had said earlier that the Cabinet will be limited to 25 or even less and that there will be scientific method in allocation of subjects for the ministries.

The NPP has also decided there will be no change in the position of Prime Minister. Accordingly, Dr. Harini Amarasuriya is set to continue as the Prime Minister of the new government.  

Meanwhile, speaking to the media in Gampaha, Member of Parliament Mahinda Jayasinghe stated that he and their group of MPs are committed to moving forward in alignment with the needs of the people.

The NPP on Friday (Nov. 15) swept the Parliamentary elections by winning a two-thirds majority, securing a record-breaking 159 seats in total.
