Police investigation underway over assets of 28 politicians

An investigation has been initiated regarding the assets of 28 politicians, including current Members of Parliament and prominent ministers of the previous government by the Illegal Property or Assets Investigation Division of the Police Department.
The investigation was launched by the Illegal Property or Assets Investigation Division based on complaints alleging that several politicians have purchased properties using money believed to have been earned unlawfully.
Accordingly, the names of Namal Rajapaksa, Mahinda Yapa Abeywardhana, Mahinda Amaraweera, Chamara Sampath Dassanayake, Rohitha Abeygunawardena, Pavithra Wanniarachchi, Kanchana Wijesekera, Sagala Ratnayaka, Janaka Thissakuttiarachchi, Wajira Abeywardana, Maheepala Herath, Anura Priyadharshana Yapa, Manusha Nanayakkara, Vadivel Suresh, Harshana Rajakaruna, Shanakiyan Rasamanickam, Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan, and Shantha Abeysekara have been included in the relevant investigation.
They are expected to be summoned by the Illegal Property or Assets Investigation Division to record statements in the near future.
Meanwhile, an investigation has also been initiated by the Illegal Property or Assets Investigation Division regarding the properties of former Chief of Defence Staff General Shavendra Silva.
A senior official further stated that if anyone is found to have purchased properties using money earned through unlawful methods, those properties will be confiscated and necessary legal action will be taken.
