A former Assistant Commissioner of the Department of Motor Traffic and two other officials who were arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) and subsequently remanded by court have been granted bail, Ada Derana reporter said.

The suspects were arrested by the Bribery Commission on suspicion of approving the issuance of a number plate for a motor vehicle that had been illegally registered with the Department of Motor Traffic without being cleared by Sri Lanka Customs.

During today’s proceedings, attorneys appearing on behalf of the suspects requested court to release their clients on bail.

However, officers of the Bribery Commission informed the Magistrate that further investigations into the incident were ongoing.

Considering the submissions, Colombo Chief Magistrate Thanuja Lakmali Jayatunga ordered the release of each suspect on two surety bails of Rs. 2 million each.

The Magistrate also imposed a travel ban on each of the released suspects.
