Number of shootings in 2025 increases to 76

The number of shooting incidents reported across the country in 2025 has risen to 76.

This includes the shooting incident reported in Kapugoda, Matara this morning.

A 48-year-old individual sustained injuries in the incident.

Shootings in 2025 have resulted in the deaths of 41 individuals, while 43 others have also sustained injuries, police stated.
