The Cabinet of Ministers has granted approval to the proposal to appoint a new delimitation committee to review the recommendations made by the committees appointed in 2012 and 2021 and to provide further recommendations.
A delimitation committee was appointed in 2012 to establish and revise Divisional Secretariat divisions and Grama Niladhari divisions in the country, and steps have been taken to implement only some of the recommendations made by the said committee.
Subsequently, another delimitation committee was appointed in 2021. However, according to the statement issued by the Government Information Department, no action has been taken thus far regarding the recommendations of the committee.
Accordingly, the Cabinet has approved the proposal submitted by the Minister of Public Administration, Provincial Councils, and Local Government to present the recommendations of the said committees to the relevant Regional Coordination Committees and District Coordination Committees, obtain their recommendations, and appoint a new delimitation committee to review those recommendations and submit a report with recommendations.
