Man arrested for assaulting police officer during protest near Fort Magistrate’s Court remanded

An individual, who was arrested for allegedly assaulting a police officer on duty with a water bottle adjacent to the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday (26), has been remanded, said Ada Derana reporter.

The Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court today (28) ordered the suspect to be remanded until September 8.

The incident took place on Tuesday near the court premises, during legal proceedings related to former President Ranil Wickremesinghe.

The suspect was arrested in Kalutara yesterday (27) by a team of officers from the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD).

According to police, the suspect has been identified as a 52-year-old former urban councilor from Nagoda.
