Few showers expected in parts of the island today

A few showers are expected in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara-Eliya districts today (02), according to the Department of Meteorology.

Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the Uva province and in the Ampara and Batticaloa districts after 2.00 p.m., the Met. Department added.

Meanwhile, fairly strong winds of about 30-40kmph can be expected at times over the Western slopes of the central hills and in the North-central and North-western provinces and in Hambantota district.

The Met. Department added that the sun will be directly over the latitudes of Sri Lanka from August 28 to September 07 due to its southward relative motion.

Accordingly, the sun will be directly overhead in Andigama, Balalla, Meegaswewa, Bambaragaswewa, Bakamuna, Aralaganwila, Chenkaladi and Eravur at around 12.10 p.m. today.
