2026 Appropriation Bill presented to Parliament

The Appropriation Bill for the year 2026 has been presented to Parliament today (26) by the Minister of Labour and Deputy Minister of Economic Development, Dr. Anil Jayantha Fernando.

The Appropriation Bill, to allocate funds for the government expenditure in 2026 financial year, was gazetted on September 18.

According to the Appropriation Bill, which the National People’s Power (NPP) government is scheduled to present to Parliament as its second budget, the total government expenditure for 2026 is Rs. 4,434 billion.

The Ministry of Finance has been allocated the largest share, amounting to Rs. 634 billion, for the coming year. 

The Ministry of Provincial Councils and Local Government has been allocated Rs. 618 billion, while Rs. 596 billion has been allocated to the Ministry of Public Administration.
