The National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) has requested the public to remain alert to landslide early warnings.
According to the NBRO, based on the weather forecast issued by the Department of Meteorology, rainfall is expected in the Northern, North Central, Eastern, Uva, and Central Provinces over the next few days starting today (29).
Accordingly, the NBRO has advised the public—especially those living in mountainous areas and along river banks—to exercise extra caution.
The NBRO has also urged residents of houses and areas already inspected and identified as being at risk of landslides to strictly follow the instructions that have already been issued.
Additionally, the NBRO has requested people living on mountainous areas, in areas where rockfalls may occur and in regions with a risk of landslides to remain vigilant about possible hazardous situations.
The public has further been asked to act in accordance with the latest landslide early warnings issued by the NBRO.
Moreover, locations that are already showing early signs of landslides may become active and experience landslides even with light rainfall. Therefore, the NBRO has requested residents of such areas to immediately evacuate and move to safer places if they observe a gradual increase in rainfall.
