The Cabinet of Ministers has granted approval to the proposal to recruit over 23,000 teachers for the state services.
Recruitment of teachers will also help the implementation of the proposed education reforms, Cabinet Spokesman Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa noted.
Cabinet approval was granted in December 2024 to appoint a committee headed by the Secretary to the Prime Minister to take necessary steps and determine the number of vacancies in the state service that needs to be filled and also to review the recruitment process of the government service.
Considering the requests made to that committee to fill the vacancies in respective ministries as well as departments and other institutions, the Cabinet of Ministers has granted approval to recruit 26,095 employees to the state service.
Accordingly, 23,344 teachers will be recruited to the Sri Lanka Teachers’ Service.
Furthermore, Cabinet approval has been granted to recruit 705 individuals to the Ministry of Health and Mass Media, 452 to the Ministry of Justice and National Integration, 442 to the Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education and 248 individuals to the Ministry of Ports and Civil Aviation.
